On July 1, 2018 The World Economic Forum Japan held a press event to announce the launch of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Japan Centre. The event, held at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo marked the opening of the first Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution outside of the United States.
The Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution is an initiative of the Swiss-based World Economic Forum whose mission it is to address the question:
“How can we maximize the benefits of science and technology for society?”
The San Francisco Centre is seen as a global hub to develop new approaches to policy and governance in an age where digital, physical and biological systems are merging and evolving. The Centre brings together several segments of our evolving society for partnership and collaboration. These include:
- Policy makers
- International organizations
- Business organizations
- Academia
- Civil society
Project that are ongoing involve the Centre’s interests in:
- AI and Machine Learning
- Internet of things and connected devices
- Blockchain technology
- Autonomous and Urban Mobility
The Fourth Industrial Revolution Japan Centre partners with Japan’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (METI) and The Asia Pacific Initiative. Japanese corporate partners include:
- Hitachi
- Horiba
- Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings
- Suntory Holdings
- Sompo Holdings
The Fourth Industrial Revolution Japan Centre will initially focus on autonomous mobility, data policy, and precision medicine.
