Xi Jinping’s First Overseas Visit

The New York Times reports that President Xi Jiping’s first overseas visit will be to Moscow. The Times speculates that Mr.Xi will attempt to get Russia’s support for its ongoing territorial issues with its Asian neighbors. Russia herself has had a long-standing dispute with Japan over islands seized during the closing days of WWII, that Japan insists are Japanese territory. Other issues could include world hot spots such as Iran, North Korea and Syria. 41 Years Later-Time For A New Shanghai Communique?

This past February 28th marked the 41st anniversary of the signing of the Shanghai Communique between the People’s Republic  of China and the United States of America.  Items covered during the historic meeting between Chairman Mao Zedong and President Richard Nixon included questions, that at the time were considered vital to both parties.These included the Indian Pakistan dispute, the Taiwan issue, and the issue of hegemony in the region.
